Holidays are the source of joy for some, and trauma for others. What I want you to remember is that you own your story–every part, every moment, every instance. Once you remember this, once you remember that your story is yours in its completeness–it will cease to have control over you. You have the pen. Use it. Use it liberally and wisely.

Find your pens.

Toni Morrison said that writers do their best work in the dark. And indeed, the times we are in now, are increasingly devoid of light. Do not despair! You are a writer! You have the light.

You are light.

Thought paper, screen and voice you have the power and capacity to record, confront and rewrite! You mustn’t lose hope… you are the hope.

Find your pens.

The utterly marvelous Anne Rice has her own take about writing. But, there is one which is applicable to almost any writer. She says, “Go to where the joy is.”

With this wisdom, I remind you, too, of the same. Go to where the joy is. Go to the subject matter that makes you happy, grants you peace, and allows you to truly write.

Find the joy. Find your joy. Find your way back to it.
