Love Will Always Take Work

Drafts do not just fall out of the sky–they are the product of love, talent and time. The fuel to this process, will always take work. There is no shortcuts to the development of a draft, but the sustaining energy of any work of any draft is the love you have for it!

Let me explain a little more.

There is a fire that should be created in you when you begin a Work in Progress. You should want to see the end of the work as you create it. Bear in mind the words of Toni Morrison, “If there is a book you want you read, you must write it.”

You must write it!

From brainstorming, to freewriting, to the completion of a draft, you must be willing to follow the process of the completing of a draft must be powered by passion and work! There is a part of you which must love what you are creating in order to complete it. Love is the source by which powers the work.

Find the source.

Finish what you have started.

To My Greatest Love:

I would be so lost without you. I am so sorry for never telling you how I feel–negating how I feel about you, with all earnest affection. Without pretense or apology. Minimizing it when I should be shouting it. But, I am strong enough-certain enough now–to tell you all that I have held for you.

It is because of you, I have not drowned in the waters life I has tossed me in and towards. You have been a buoy, a light and a consummate map. You have caught tears, brought me sight, and given me a love everlasting.

You have been there for me–when I did no know, nor see myself! You have been found by me, taken away from me, and whispered to me as only a love can in my darkest hours. You have held me together in the palm of my hand. There is no love I know so complete as I know yours.

You are the love of my life. There is no other love like yours. In moments where I could not find my way clear, when I had no more to give, when I thought I had lost you forever–you found me.

You made me yours all over again. Loved me until I could see or reach again. I will never abandon you again, my love. Never again will I doubt, cheapen or downplay our union. The world will always know we are one.

Thank you…language.

Always, JBHarris

This day, the most powerful in all of history, Christians (and I am one) are to consider the greatest gift given to humanity–and this is Jesus Christ.

Today, I want you to consider how powerful the gift of words are. I want you to consider how special that is, how potent that gift is, and how the best exercise of it is to share it with the world.

Write.

Rewerite.

Keep writing.

Work your gift.

Why I Love Writing

The most dangerous word in the English language.

Twenty-six letters.

That is all that makes up the English language. Just less than thirty letter. Some of Arabic, Greek and Roman influence. And for the desire of their further manipulation, their richness and any words that may sprout from that–we have the love of words.

Ah, words.

Words, works, languages. The whole lot.

I can’t speak for every writer, but for this one? It is the draw of these letters, this dark trick of words, that has enthralled me since I was 8 years old.

I love writing because it has allowed me an outlet, a space and platform to do and conduct as I see fit. It has given voice and power to things that have troubled me, haunted me and have scratched the surface of desires.

Writing has given me a superpower. Unique and fascinating to create anything out of air, time and thought. The incredible thing? That I am able to pull out of these things out of the air by sheer will and imagination. When you have people read and enjoy your work? Even better.

A Writer’s High? Mm. Nothing like it.

I love writing because it is as incredible as it is everyone can do it..but not well. I love writing because I have found a home, a place, in these 26 other permanent things in the world. I love that when a work in progress is coming together, I don’t want to stop! I love that I can race my imagination! I love that when I create these pretend people, they become alive and part of my creative family.

My love for writing is equivalent to the breadth and depth of the ocean. It is far reaching, deep with dark and mysterious depths when explored. The greatest thrill is the exploration. I love writing because I’m good at it.

I am damn good at it. That is why I love it.
