Holidays are the source of joy for some, and trauma for others. What I want you to remember is that you own your story–every part, every moment, every instance. Once you remember this, once you remember that your story is yours in its completeness–it will cease to have control over you. You have the pen. Use it. Use it liberally and wisely.

There is a power to storytelling. There is a skill to storytelling as well. This is one of the skills you must develop as a writer! Storytelling is an art, a skill, and a talent.

Begin to develop this talent.

Embrace this flexibility of your talent–it is needed and you will never regret it.

“The power of story…”

This quote is what one that I heard from Glory Edim’s love letter Well-Read Black Girl. It is that wisdom that I give to you.

I remind you of the power of story.

The power of your story.

Write it–because no one else can. And no one will be able to do it as well as you.
